Sun Life Financial reports first quarterly results since its acquisition of health provider Dialogue

Sun Life Financial (TSX:SLF) saw its stock fall 1.5% after hours despite topping Street expectations with its third-quarter earnings.

The Toronto company posted earnings per share of $1.48, up from $1.29 per share a year earlier and above expectations of $1.14.

Underlying net income was $930 million, compared to $949 million in the year-ago quarter.

"Sun Life delivered good results and we continue to benefit from our diversified business mix with strong net income in Canada, growth in SLC Management fee-related earnings and good growth in Asia," CEO Kevin Strain said in a statement.

The company also said it completed its acquisition of virtual health and wellness provider Dialogue during the period.
