Saietta Group's strategic advance in India's EV market: A closer look

Saietta Group PLC (AIM:SED), a specialist in electric drivetrain technology, on Monday secured a significant deal through its Indian joint venture, valued at around £12.7 million. This agreement focuses on the supply of complete electric drivetrains for a new light commercial vehicle (LCV) model. Here we take a closer look at the business and the transaction.

The importance of the deal: This new contract represents the second major agreement secured by Saietta's Indian joint venture from the same mainstream Indian lightweight vehicle manufacturer. The deal underlines the successful collaboration and technical prowess of Saietta in the highly competitive Indian market. Tony Gott, the chairman of Saietta Group, emphasised the significance of this partnership and the potential for future orders, indicating a strong market demand for the company's modular products and services.

Technological edge: Central to Saietta's success is its innovative radial flux technology (RFT) motor, combined with a custom controller, transmission, axle, and vehicle control unit. This deal marks the first major contract for their new RFT eDrive, showcasing the technology's vast commercial potential. It follows a previous order for Saietta's axial flux technology (AFT) motor, highlighting the company's ability to cater to diverse market needs with its range of advanced technologies.

Market dynamics and growth potential: Analysts point out that the Indian lightweight eMobility sector, which dominates the electric automotive market in India, is rapidly expanding. This sector accounts for a significant portion of EV registrations in the country. Saietta's entry into this market with both AFT and RFT technologies strategically positions the company to tap into this growth. The recent deal not only strengthens Saietta's foothold in the Indian market but also opens up opportunities in the larger two-wheeler sector, which is a substantial part of the Indian EV landscape.

Production and expansion plans: The development and design of these eDrive solutions were conducted at Saietta's Global Technical Centre in Silverstone, UK. Production is slated to take place at Saietta VNA's new facility in Delhi, India, utilizing a predominantly local supply chain. This approach is expected to enhance operational efficiency and market responsiveness. With the AFT eDrive already in production and the RFT system set to begin in Q2 2024, Saietta is poised to make a significant impact on the Indian LCV market.

Funding and outlook: In light of these developments, Saietta is actively seeking additional funding to bolster working capital and seize the evident opportunities in the Indian lightweight vehicle sector. The company confirmed that it is in advanced discussions with key stakeholders, and this recent deal is likely to play a crucial role in these negotiations. The combination of technological innovation, strategic market positioning, and strong partnerships positions Saietta as a notable player in the evolving global electric vehicle industry.
