United Auto Workers (UAW) union members at the General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) assembly plant in Flint, Michigan have voted by a slim margin to reject the proposed labor contract between the two parties, according to the union’s local chapter.
A narrow majority of 51.8% of votes were cast against the deal, UAW Local 598 announced in a Facebook post.
The Flint assembly plant builds Silverado heavy duty pickup trucks.
The proposed agreement would increase base wages by 25% through April 2028 and cumulatively increase the top wage by 33% compounded with COLA (cost-of-living adjustments) to more than $42 per hour for the 46,000 UAW workers at GM plants.
Union workers reached tentative agreements with GM, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) and Chrysler-parent Stellantis NV (NYSE:STLA, EPA:STLA) within the past two weeks to end a coordinated strike against all three Detroit automakers.
The vote raises the possibility of additional production delays for GM, which last month pulled its full-year guidance and postponed a $4 billion investment in an electric truck plant in Michigan.
