Humane launches smartphone alternative Ai Pin

Humane, a San Francisco, California-based technology startup founded by former Apple designers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, on Thursday launched its first device, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered pin.

The square device is a wearable smartphone without a screen which clips onto the user’s clothing. It displays text and images on a user's hand using a laser projection system.

It has a speaker and camera built-in, and functions include allowing the user to send and receive text messages, language translation, and access to AI services, among others.

The Ai Pin device starts at US$699 and has a US$24-a-month subscription fee, which gives subscribers a phone number and data coverage through T-Mobile’s network.

United States orders for the pin will commence on November 16 with first orders expected to ship in early 2024.
