Apple settles lawsuit over discriminatory hiring practices

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has settled a lawsuit with the Department of Justice (DOJ) over its hiring practices in 2018 and 2019, the Associated Press reported.

The company was accused of discriminating against US candidates and in some cases non-US candidates for some jobs that required permanent resident status.

Apple denied any wrongdoing and said it was unaware of the DOJ standard.

The company agreed to pay US$25 million, most of which will go to a fund for the victims of the alleged discrimination.

Apple said it employs more than 90,000 people in the US and creates millions of jobs. The settlement resolved a long investigation that began in 2019.

“Apple proudly employs more than 90,000 people in the United States and continues to invest nationwide, creating millions of jobs,” Apple said in a statement to AP.

“When we realized we had unintentionally not been following the DOJ standard, we agreed to a settlement addressing their concerns.”
