Cannabis

The Afterhours — Groupon, Lions Gate, Unity, News Corp, Aurora Cannabis, Trade Desk, Wheaton Precious Metals

Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) disappointed investors with its third-quarter 2023 financial results and plans to raise about $100 million through a fully backstopped equity rights offering and non-core asset sales, sending shares 37% lower in extended trading.

For 3Q, the consumer site for discounted local services saw its revenue fall 12% year over year to $126.5 million, missing the $127.41 million consensus forecast.

Lions Gate Entertainment (NYSE:LGF) shares rose slightly as the company swung to an unexpected profit.

The media company posted adjusted earnings of $0.21 per share, compared to an expected loss of $0.05 per share. Revenue was $1.02 billion, up from $875.2 million a year earlier and compared to expectations of $1.01 billion.

Unity Software Inc (NYSE:U) shares dropped more than 12% after the company’s quarterly results missed expectations.

The video game software company posted a loss of $0.32 per share, well worse than Street expectations of a $0.17 per share profit. Revenue was $544.2 million, below estimates of $554.17 million.

News Corporation (NASDAQ:NWSA) stock fell 0.4% despite beating Street expectations with its fiscal first-quarter results.

The media conglomerate posted revenue of $2.50 billion, just above Street estimates of $2.49 billion. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.16, topping estimates of $0.12.

Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB, NASDAQ:ACB) shares took off after Thursday’s market close as the cannabis producer reported a profit for the fiscal second quarter and reaffirmed it is on track to achieve positive free cash flow during the 2024 calendar year.

Shares of Edmonton, Alberta-based Aurora added 23.3% at US$0.55 shortly following the release of its 2Q earnings.

The Trade Desk shares plunged almost 28% as weak revenue guidance overshadowed an earnings beat for the third quarter.

The digital marketing company guided fourth-quarter revenue of at least $580 million. Wall Street analysts were expecting revenue of $612.8 million.

Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (LSE:WPM, TSX:WPM, NYSE:WPM) shares rose slightly following mixed third-quarter results.

The Vancouver-based company posted earnings of $0.27 per share, slightly above Street expectations of $0.26 per share. Revenue was $223 million, missing expectations of $245.7 million.
