CO2 GRO Inc (TSX-V:GROW, OTCQB:BLONF) announced that it has commissioned a 12-month Technology Adaptation Project (TAP) with a major United States greenhouse lettuce grower.
The company said that the lettuce grower, a multi-state operator with more than 2 million square feet of greenhouse production, will evaluate its CO2 Enrichment Solutions technology’s impact on lettuce yield, quality, carbon dioxide savings, and overall financials.
"Commissioning this TAP with one of the United States' major greenhouse lettuce growers is an important step in the market penetration of our technology in the U.S.,” CO2 GRO vice president of sales Aaron Archibald said in a statement.
He noted that greenhouse lettuce is one of the fastest-growing greenhouse vegetable segments. “As the product is a leaf, it is perfectly suited for our technology,” Archibald said.
“We look forward to completing a successful project with this lettuce grower and moving towards a commercial deployment as soon as possible in 2024."
Technology improves rose yield
The company also provided an update on its ongoing TAP with a rose grower in Columbia, which it said was yielding “outstanding results.”
The project began in January 2023 and as of the end of October, the CO2 GRO bed yielded 38% more rose stems compared to the control group.
CO2 GRO said this equates to potential additional production of over 125,000 rose stems per hectare per year, $62,500 in revenue terms.
The company said the TAP is expected to conclude in February 2024 at which time it and the rose grower plan to finalize terms for a commercial deployment.
“In addition to the 38% yield increase, the rose grower has reported a significant decrease in powdery mildew spread in the CO2 GRO beds, showing that our natural Pathogen Perimeter Protection benefit also works on flowers,” CO2 GRO CEO John Archibald said.
“The Colombia rose market square footage is huge and is mostly run by a small number of growers. Excellent results at this initial TAP could lead to a fast roll-out throughout Colombia's rose industry.”
