PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (TSX:PYR, NASDAQ:PYR) announced that an independent analysis carried out at McGill University has confirmed the commercial quality of its partner HPQ Silicon’s fumed silica reactor materials, an initiative being led by HPQ’s wholly-owned subsidiary HPQ Silica Polvere.
As HPQ’s technology partner, PyroGenesis sent materials made using the lab-scaled model of the reactor and two different grades of commercially available fumed silica materials to McGill University for analysis.
The company said the analysis confirmed that HPQ’s Polvere’s Fumed Silica Reactor produces commercial-quality hydrophilic material with a high surface area and excellent thickening efficiency.
It noted that when compared to conventional processes, HPQ’s process for commercial fumed silica can use 87% less energy and releases 84% less carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
“This is a major milestone for HPQ,” HPQ Silicon and HPQ Silica Polvere CEO Bernard Tourillon said in a statement.
“The results not only validate that we can make commercial grade hydrophilic fumed silica directly from quartz in one step using only the power of plasma, but also represent a clear indication of the test results we expect from the numerous parties who have requested samples under non-disclosure agreements (NDA).”
