Nintendo shares jumped over 2% after the company confirmed that a live-action film is to be made of its beloved 'Legend of Zelda' video game series.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the video game designer who was one of the key creators of the original 'Legend of Zelda' video game, is producing the film.
Wes Ball, who made 'The Maze Runner' series, has been signed up as the director.
The actor who will play the main character Link has not been shared or decided yet, nor the eponymous Princess Zelda or her captor and perennial final boss Ganon.
Zelda is one of the most successful franchises of Nintendo since first being released in 1986, with the latest in the series, 'Tears of the Kingdom', the fastest-selling of all, with over 10 million units sold globally in the first three days alone, with four million in the Americas.
Nintendo has had success adapting its computer games into films before, most notably 'The Super Mario Bros Movie' recently.
Starred the voice of Chris Pratt as Mario, this CGI-animated production was released in April and within a few months had become the second highest-grossing film of 2023 and the second highest animated film of all time with over US$1 billion taken worldwide.
However, 'Super Mario Bros', a live-action movie released in 1993, with Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Lequizamo as Luigi was such a flop that Nintendo has been reluctant to produce or license any sort of live-action movie ever again.
