Latest UK employment data provides a mixed picture

If there was a positive from the latest batch of employment data it was this: While the number of people being hired was still in decline in the UK, that rate of decline is seemingly slowing.

This is according to a survey commissioned by KPMG Recruitment and Employment Confederation - a fringe report. The sample was restricted to a single month (October), so shouldn't be construed as indicative of a trend.

Providing a truly mixed bag, the poll revealed good news for employers: a deceleration in wage growth; but bad news for employees: a rise in redundancies, leading to more job seekers entering the market.

Temporary staffing expenditures remained constant, indicating businesses are relying more on short-term hires.
