Daily Mirror-publisher Reach to cut another 450 jobs

Daily Mirror and Express publisher Reach PLC (LSE:RCH) has announced a reduction of an estimated 450 roles, equating to 10% of its workforce.

Following an initial phase of cost reductions earlier this year, which saw the departure of around 200 employees and aimed to decrease spending by 5-6%, the national and regional media group is taking additional measures.

"Our industry has a history of change and the future will undoubtedly involve yet more," said chief executive Jim Mullen.

"That's why it's essential we set ourselves up to win, by making our operations suited to an increasingly fast-paced, competitive and customer-focused digital world."

A report from London's Evening Standard said the job cuts were unrelated to Reach's adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) for content creation.

In early trade, the stock was little changed at 78.4p.
