Amazon UK workers strike in Coventry, further action planned for Black Friday

Up to 1,000 workers at Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s Coventry warehouse went on strike on Tuesday as part of a long-running pay dispute.

The GMB Union today stated that further strike action is due to take place this Thursday and Friday, followed by another strike on Black Friday, 24 November.

GMB organiser Rachel Fagan commented: “Today more than 1,000 GMB members at Amazon will down tools and take to the picket line in the first day of strike action leading to Black Friday.

“This is an unprecedented and historic moment with low-paid workers taking on one of the world’s most powerful corporations.”

Amazon has lost nearly 30 working days due to ongoing strikes, Fagan said, who noted that Amazon workers in Birmingham have also launched a new strike vote.

“With a winter of strike chaos looming, it’s time for Amazon bosses to urgently listen to their workers,” said Fagan.
