In a bold move within the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, Elon Musk's new company, xAI, has launched an AI chatbot named Grok.
This chatbot, inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, boasts a unique personality, designed to tackle the queries with wit and a hint of rebellion, potentially fielding the more 'spicy questions' other AIs might avoid.
On Saturday, xAI announced that Grok was intended to challenge the current conventions of AI, suggesting a departure from the 'politically correct' algorithms that Musk has previously critiqued.
xAI's chatbot is in its prototype phase, currently two months into its training and available to a select user base for testing.
The wider release of Grok is slated to follow, with plans for integration into the X Premium+ service at a monthly cost of US$16.

Surpasses other models
Grok's performance, according to xAI, is promising. Initial tests indicate that it surpasses other models in its compute class on tasks such as middle school math and Python coding, though it remains behind models with access to larger data sets.
Despite this, as with any Large Language Model (LLM), Grok is still capable of producing inaccurate or inconsistent outputs.

Musk's new AI initiative has already attracted talent from esteemed institutions such as OpenAI and DeepMind, signalling a serious foray into the competitive field of AI.
