The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) has acknowledged that a cyber attack has hit its parts and distribution business.
This follows claims from ransomware group Lockbit that it had stolen data from Boeing that would be published online if the manufacturer did not provide payment by November 2.
Boeing acknowledged an issue on Wednesday, adding it was working alongside law enforcement on an investigation into a cyber attack.
US-based Boeing did not confirm whether the cyber attack was related to Lockbit’s claims.
“This issue does not affect flight safety,” a Boeing spokesperson said.
“We are actively investigating the incident and coordinating with law enforcement and regulatory authorities. We are notifying our customers and suppliers.”
Lockbit has since removed the threat of publishing Boeing data, which it is feared could include information on military contracts, from its website.
The attack is said to have hit Boeing’s parts and distribution wing, which provides logistical support and materials for the likes of airlines.
"A tremendous amount of sensitive data was exfiltrated and [is] ready to be published,” Lockbit had warned on Monday.
