Apple Inc: 'Scary Fast' MacBook Pro and iMac launched

It's Halloween so it must be time to launch the latest iteration of the world's sleekest laptops and desktops.

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has unveiled a revamped version of its MacBook Pro along with an updated iMac at its recent 'Scary Fast' event.

Both machines feature Apple's new M3 chip, marking the third generation of Apple's Silicon chips, which were first introduced in 2020.

The M3 chip promises performance improvements of 15-30% over the earlier M2 version. Apple specifically highlighted that the base M3 chip performs 7.4 times faster in video editing compared to older Intel Core i7 processors.

Additionally, the new M3 chip allows for up to 22 hours of battery life and MacBook Pro models can include up to 128GB of memory.

For the first time, Apple has simultaneously introduced three versions of its chip: the base M3, the M3 Pro, and the M3 Max.

These high-end chips will initially only be available in the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

The company also revealed a new "space black" colour for the MacBook Pro, using a specific aluminium that resists fingerprint marks. The 14-inch MacBook Pro now comes with a price reduction, from $1,999 to $1,599. UK pricing is not yet available.

Notably absent from the event were announcements about USB-C accessories for Mac, despite recent shifts away from the Lightning cable for iPhones. Apple CEO Tim Cook indicated that there would be no more significant releases for the remainder of the year.
