A giant airship named Pathfinder 1, backed by Google co-founder Sergey Brin, has been approved for 25 test flights in California, according to reports.
The airship is 400 feet long and uses helium gas and electric motors. It will take off vertically and is expected to reach speeds of up to 75 miles per hour.
The company behind the airship, LTA Research, plans to build larger airships that can carry tons of cargo in the future.
Google has previously invested in Loon, which aimed to provide internet connectivity using balloons, but was shut down in 2021.
Airships have been a subject of interest since the Hindenburg disaster of 1937, which killed 35 people and damaged the public perception of airship safety.
