GSK shingles vaccine to underpin third quarter update

Strong sales of its shingles vaccine Shingrix has already seen GSK upgrade its forecasts for 2023.

The pharmaceutical giant now expects turnover to increase by 8-10%, up from the previous estimate of 6-8%, and adjusted operating profit growth of 11-13%, up from 10-12%. Adjusted EPS growth is also expected to rise by 14-17%, up from 12-15%.

Confirmation of those numbers will probably be enough for investors in next week’s third-quarter update, though the UK pharma might quantify what all the recent regulatory good news for its RSV vaccines means financially.

GSK also settled recently with a group of litigants in California over its Zantac heartburn litigation, prompting analysts to suggest the issue might be settled completely by the first quarter of 2024 for “US$5bn or less”.

Shares are trading at 1,457p, largely unchanged from the start of the year.
