Paul Marshall, the founder and chair of hedge fund Marshall Wallace, said he will aim to expand in the US should his bid for the Telegraph newspaper group be successful, reports from the Times revealed.
Under his plans, the aim would be to target around 100 million US citizens with centre-right political views, the 64-year-old entrepreneur said.
He also plans on hiring a significant number of journalists to help increase the pressure on more mainstream American publications.
Marshall also wants to raise the group's investment in international operations should he emerge victorious.
One strategy being considered is to grab millions of US readers by offering a more right-wing view on American politics in comparison to publications like the New York Times, sources close to Marshall revealed.
A bidding war is set to take place for the British newspaper group after former owners the Barclay family lost control when Lloyds Bank requested repayment of around £1 billion in unpaid debt.
Earlier this month, the Barclay family made a £1 billion offer for the Telegraph, aiming to ward off competing bidders ahead of the upcoming auction.
This offer comes after the Barclays secured financial backing from Abu Dhabi-based investors, Sky News said.
