American Golf leads privately held retailers with strong profit growth

Operating profits jumped by 723% for American Golf over two years

American Golf, Yours-owner AK Retail, Waterstones, and jeweller Boodles have emerged as some of the best-performing privately owned retailers.

Going by operating profit growth over the last two years for companies with earnings over £5 million, the E2E Profit 100 Track in association with The Independent has a handy list of retailers in its top rankings.

American Golf, the sports retailer, leads the charge, boasting an extraordinary 723% growth, followed closely by fashion group Yours, which secured a substantial 451% jump over the two years.

Waterstones, which is owned by hedge fund Elliot Adviser, achieved a commendable 344% increase, while Boodles saw a rise of 237%.

Moss Bros, the smart clothing retailer, claimed the fifth spot with a 178% jump, followed by Warren James with a rise of 135%.

Euro Garages (EG Group), which is owned by Asda proprietors the Issa Brothers, came in at number 100 on the list, having chalked up 122% growth in the two years.

  • Breal Capital (508%)
  • Caffe Concerto (438%)
  • We Buy Any Car (306%)
  • Optical Express (179%)
