Wincanton PLC (LSE:WIN, OTC:WNCNF) has won a contract to manage the transport of goods for airline Jet2 PLC's retail operations.
In a new contract, the supply chain company said it will transport goods from Jet2.com’s new 150,000 sq ft retail operations centre in Cheshire to storage facilities at UK airports.
Using its Control Tower technology to manage the logistical network strategy, Wincanton said this would enable accurate, real-time visibility on the location of stock, proof of delivery and optimising resources.
Jet2 last year decided to bring its retail operations in-house, following the supplier disruption faced during the summer of 2022, investing in the construction of an operations centre to enable the airline to stock, manage and distribute products including drinks, non-perishable food and duty-free fragrances, beauty products and other gifts.
Jet2 chief executive Steve Heapy said launching an in-house retail operations centre was a "pioneering step" for the UK aviation sector.
"Industry-leading customer service is a critical driver of our continued success, so we are absolutely delighted to be applying that to our in-flight retail operation," he said.
