TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TOT, EPA:TTE) has begun producing power from its largest solar farm yet in Texas.
Set to mainly power the company’s industrial sites in the U.S. Gulf Coast region, TotalEnergies announced Myrtle Solar started commercial operations on Tuesday.
The 705,000 panels located at the site are able to produce up to 380MW of electricity in peak conditions, enough to power the equivalent of 70,000 homes, TotalEnergies said.
“This startup is another milestone in achieving our goal to build an integrated and profitable position in Texas,” TotalEnergies renewable vice president Vincent Stoquart said.
“The project will enable the company to cover the power needs of some of its biggest U.S. industrial sites with electricity from a renewable source.”
Some 30% of the power produced from the site will be sold to real estate firm Kilroy Realty under a 15-year purchase agreement, the oil major added.
Myrtle also includes 225MWh worth of storage capacity through 114 units, in order to ensure more production flexibility, the company said.
Citing tax breaks granted under President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, Stoquart explained the firm would continue to invest in clean energy technology.
“We will continue to actively develop our 25 GW portfolio of projects in operation or development in the United States,” he said.
