Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled a new £250 million test facility in Coventry, England as it braces to push ahead into the electric vehicle (EV) sphere.
Tata Motors Limited (NYSE:TTM)-owned Jaguar unveiled the lab at its Whitley site on Monday, which will support the rollout of its EV fleet, much of which is set to be powered by batteries built at a new factory in the UK.
“This facility [...] is essential to providing the advanced testing capabilities that will be vital to the performance and reliability of the modern luxury vehicles,” executive director Thomas Mueller said.
Some 200 engineers already work at the test facility according to Jaguar, with an extra 150 roles set to be created as upgrades continue through £22 million of fresh investment.
Jaguar Land Rover announced earlier this year that it would spend £4 billion to build a new EV battery factory in Somerset.
This will see power units produced for its future fleet of electrified Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar models, as well as for rival companies.
