The Premarket: Netflix, Tesla, AT&T, Nokia, Taiwan Semiconductor, Ford

Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) shares jumped 14% in early premarket, to $394.40, thanks to third quarter earnings that landed ahead of expectations and significant subscriber growth. For the quarter, the company posted revenue of $8.54 billion, in line with the company’s forecast and the consensus Street estimate. Read more

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) shares were down 6.5% in Thursday's early premarket, changing hands at $226.83, after the Elon Musk-led carmaker posted third-quarter results that missed expectations. Read more

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), up 4.5% to $14.96, posted better-than-expected third quarter revenue and earnings and as it raised free cash flow and Ebitda guidance for the full-year. The telco said in the third quarter revenue rose 1% to $30.4 billion from $30.04 billion the year prior, ahead of forecasts for $30.2 billion. Read more

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK), down 4.1% to $3.25, is to cut up to 14,000 jobs as part of a cost reduction strategy after reporting a drop in quarterly profit. The telecommunications equipment company said it will lower its cost base on a gross basis by between €800 million and €1.2 billion over a three-year period in order to "address the market environment". Disney (NYSE:DIS), up 0.4% to $85.05, searches for a strategic investor for its ESPN brand, it revealed that the sports broadcaster brought in around US$12.5 billion in the first nine months of the financial year. Revenue in the conglomerate's sports segment, which covers ESPN’s TV network and streaming service as well as minor contributions from India-based Disney Star, fell slightly quarter-on-quarter from US$4.6 billion in the first three months to US$4.3 billion in the quarter to July 1. Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE:TSM) shares jumped 3.8%, to $93.02, in US pre-market trading after the giant chipmaker said the industry could be poised for recovery. Third-quarter net profit fell 25% to T$211 billion, beating a T$195.5 billion consensus. Read more

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), down 1.45% to $11.58, renewed calls on the US government to scale back plans to ensure manufacturers meet higher vehicle efficiency standards in coming years. Read more
