J.B. Hunt Transport Services (NASDAQ:JBHT), a prominent trucking and transportation services provider, reported a year-over-year profit decrease of 30.4% in the third quarter, falling below analyst predictions due to declining revenues across its operating units.
The company posted a profit of $187.4 million or $1.80 per diluted share, down from $269.4 million or $2.57 per diluted share in the same quarter last year.
Revenue for the most recent quarter was reported at $3.16 billion, an 18% decrease from $3.84 billion in the prior year.
The dip in profit and revenue can be attributed to a significant decline in Intermodal (JBI) and Truckload (JBT) revenue per load, contributing to 49% and 6% of the company's revenues, respectively.
The firm’s Integrated Capacity Solutions (ICS) unit saw a 38% volume decrease, while the Dedicated Contract Services (DCS) unit experienced a 1% decline in average revenue-producing trucks.
The company is navigating a challenging freight environment but remains optimistic about the signs of improvement in the industry's direction.
Shares of JB Hunt slid 5.6% in Wednesday morning trading at $183.59.
