Apple launches $79 Apple Pencil with USB-C charging

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) introduced a new $79 Apple Pencil that comes with a USB-C charging port on Tuesday.

The new Apple Pencil, the company’s cheapest to date, works with all USB-C iPads and attaches magnetically.

The charging change comes after the unveiling of the iPhone 15 lineup last month, which included news that Apple will shift to USB-C charging to comply with European Union universal charging regulations.

However, the new $79 iteration lacks the pressure sensitivity feature of the previous $99 version and the wireless charging of the $129 version.

Pressure sensitivity is a feature particularly useful for those who rely on the Apple Pencil to create digital art.

Shares of Apple traded 0.4% lower Tuesday afternoon at $178.06.
