Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LSE:MKS) is looking to hire up to 10,000 temporary workers ahead of the festive season.
As retailers prepare for the Christmas boost, M&S laid out plans on Monday to ramp up the number of in-store roles from 19 November.
Following a strong year so far, which saw M&S regain its spot on the FTSE 100 index after a four-year absence, its addition of 10,000 jobs marks a 40% increase in the numbers seen in last year's recruitment drive.
“The Christmas period is a busy but exciting time for M&S and no two days are the same,” operations director Sacha Berendji commented.
“In fact, many colleagues started their M&S careers at Christmas and have since gone on to progress across the business.”
Vacancies will span to every single one of M&S’s UK stores, the company continued, adding customer service roles in both its food and household goods divisions.
Rival Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO) has laid out plans to add 30,000 extra staff for the festive period, mirroring last year's recruitment drive, while Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) is looking to boost numbers by 15,000 in the coming weeks.
M&S shares climbed by 0.9% to 217.40p.
