Volkswagen Group (XETRA:VOW) increased its all-electric vehicle deliveries by 45% for the first nine months of 2023 when compared to the same period last year, the German carmaker said on Friday.
It said it delivered 531,500 all-electric vehicles to customers from January to September, compared to 366,600 in the prior year period, raising its share of electric vehicle (EV) deliveries to 7.9% from 6.1 in the prior year period.
In the third quarter, EV share reached 9% compared to 6.8% a year ago.
The most successful model for the first nine months of 2023 was the Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5, with 162,100 vehicles delivered.
Volkswagen said Europe was a key growth driver, increasing by 61% to 341,100 vehicles, while EV deliveries in the United States rose 74% to 50,300. EV deliveries in China increased by 4% to 117,100.
“We showed a good overall performance in our all-electric deliveries with a global increase of 45 percent in the first nine months,” said Hildegard Wortmann, a member of Volkswagen’s Extended Executive Committee for Sales, in a statement.
“Despite the current general reluctance in the European market to buy battery-powered vehicles, we gained market share and remained market leader in this segment. However, our order intake is below our ambitious targets due to the lower-than-expected overall market trend.”
