Friday the 13th is typically considered the unluckiest day among superstitious folk and it appears the frightful number is having an impact on the housing market, too.
Analysts at property website Rightmove PLC (LSE:RMV) discovered that homes with the supposedly unlucky number 13 are typically priced lower, and could provide a potential bargain for optimistic buyers.
Looking at over 10 million properties in Britain, Rightmove found that homes numbered 13 had an average value of £354,793, which is £5,333 less than the overall average of £360,126.
It's a trend that has led developers to skip number 13, going directly from 12 to 14 to cater to superstitious property buyers.
Interestingly, properties numbered one were the most desirable, with an average value of £393,690, more than £30,000 greater than the average housing price.
Properties with the lucky number seven boasted an above-average value of £365,590.
Edward Thomson, director of Strutt & Parker property consultancy, said: "If living at number 13 doesn't faze you, it is possible you could find yourself buying against a smaller proportion of the market and therefore do a better deal - but only if you're lucky, of course."
