Demand to see Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ concert film was so high that the pop superstar brought it to fans in the United States and Canada a day early.
Swift announced on Wednesday night that due to “unprecedented demand” fans in the two countries would be able to see the film at early access showings on Thursday.
The film will then debut in more than 8,500 theatres across about 100 countries worldwide on Friday, October 13.
The early access screenings were a smart last-minute move from Swift as American and Canadian fans who wanted to get in first to see the film would likely buy additional tickets to Thursday’s showings, even if they already had tickets for showings on Friday or later this weekend.
The concert film is projected to rake in between $150 million and $200 million during its opening weekend at the global box office, according to Forbes.
This includes $100 to $125 million in North America and $50 to $75 million in other regions.
On October 4th, cinema chain AMC said the film had surpassed $100 million in global advance ticket sales revenue.
Packed cinemas are expected well into the film’s run, with showings only taking place on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in AMC locations across the United States.
