Cornish Metals' South Crofty Project: A beacon of economic and environmental promise

In a sector often marred by uncertainty, Cornish Metals Inc (AIM:CUSN, TSX-V:CUSN, OTC:SBWFF) has emerged with uplifting news that stands to benefit both investors and environmentalists alike, according to a research note from Liberum.

The company's South Crofty tin project in Cornwall has delivered X-ray transmission (XRT) ore sorting results that have exceeded even the most optimistic projections, the investment bank noted.

This development not only bodes well for the project's economic viability but also promises a reduced environmental footprint.

A leap in ore sorting technology

The XRT ore sorting technology employed at South Crofty has proven to be a game-changer. The results indicate that 55% of the mass can be discarded with a minimal metal loss of less than 3%, Liberum noted.

In layman's terms, the company can now extract more valuable material while wasting less, a win-win for both profitability and sustainability.

This efficiency in sorting translates to lower operational and capital costs, enhancing the project's overall financial outlook.

Moreover, the reduced power consumption and downsized process plant contribute to a smaller environmental footprint, aligning with growing calls for sustainable mining practices.

On track and making progress

While the XRT results are indeed promising, they are part of a larger picture, the Liberum research notes. The feasibility study (FS), a comprehensive analysis that will determine the project's long-term viability, is progressing as planned.

Scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, a significant portion of the study has already been finalised.

This includes essential components like structural modelling of the headframe — a tower-like structure essential for underground mining — and plans for refurbishing existing shafts. The remaining elements, such as the design of the plant and mine, are currently in the works.

Financial resilience amidst ambitious plans

Cornish Metals is not just making technological strides; it's doing so with a robust financial cushion. As of July 2023, the company reported a cash reserve of C$39.9 million, a reassuring figure especially when compared to its minimal current liabilities of C$3.1 million, Liberum noted.

This financial stability is in part due to a successful fundraising round in May 2022, which saw a strategic investment of £25 million from Vision Blue Resources, led by Sir Mick Davis.

Vision Blue now holds a 26% interest in Cornish Metals, underscoring the project's investment appeal.

Upcoming milestones

The immediate future holds two significant developments. First, the commissioning of a £7 million mine water treatment plant is set for this month. This facility is designed to treat 25,000 cubic metres of water per day, which will then be channelled to the Red River. Second, the company expects the arrival of two single-drum winders for shaft re-access work, with installation to follow shortly. These steps are crucial for the project's next phases and will be closely watched by stakeholders.

A promising horizon

The latest updates from Cornish Metals' South Crofty project are a testament to what can be achieved when technological innovation meets sound financial planning.

With its strong financial standing and a series of key milestones on the immediate horizon, Cornish Metals appears well positioned for sustainable growth, both economically and environmentally.
