Former Bank of England boss Carney endorses Labour shadow chancellor

Former Bank of England governor Mark Carney has publicly endorsed Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor in a video message to the Labour party conference in Liverpool.

Carney praised Reeves as a "serious economist" while touting her comprehensive understanding of the economic landscape.

Carney’s endorsement came as Reeves unveiled her economic plan, promising "iron discipline" to restore the UK’s public finances.

It was “beyond time we put her energy and ideas into action”, said Carney.

“Rachel Reeves is a serious economist... she understands the economics of work, of place and family,” Carney stated.

In Reeves’ Monday address to the Labour Party, she mentioned restoring public finances, improving public services, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.

Following his retirement from the Bank of England, Canadian-born Carney moved on to roles of chairman and head of Impact Investing at Brookfield Asset Management (TSX:BAM.A).

In August, he was appointed chair of Bloomberg.
