OpenAI rival Anthropic seeking $30bn valuation through new fundraise

Anthropic is reportedly in advanced discussions to secure at least $2 billion in a new round of funding, according to reports from The information.

The news comes on the heels of a significant $1.25 billion investment commitment from Amazon just last week.

Google, which acquired approximately 10% of Anthropic in 2022, is also anticipated to participate in this funding round.

Founded two years ago by Dario and Daniela Amodei in San Francisco, Anthropic is the company behind Claude, a sophisticated chatbot in direct competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The company is seeking a valuation ranging from $20 billion to $30 billion, inclusive of the anticipated new investment.

If realised, this would represent a fivefold increase from its $4 billion valuation as of March.

Claude is current in beta testing mode.
