The Afterhours: GM lays off more UAW workers; Tesla misses on EV deliveries

General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) said Monday that it is furloughing another 160 workers in connection with the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike.

Eighteen days into the strike, GM announced 130 cuts at its Parma, Ohio Metal Center and 34 at its Marion, Indiana Metal Center.

The move follows a UAW decision Friday to add GM’s Lansing Delta Township assembly plant in Michigan to its group of actively striking facilities. The Lansing plant builds the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse crossovers.

Meanwhile, a slew of electric vehicle (EV) makers have posted their delivery numbers, and Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) lagged behind Rivian and others relative to expectations.

Tesla told investors it produced 430,488 vehicles in the quarter, delivering 435,059 units — that marked deliveries around 30% stronger than this time last year but came up short of the 461,000 expected by the market.

Elsewhere, shares of the cannabis company Tilray Inc (NASDAQ:TLRY) fell Monday after it completed the acquisition of eight beer brands from Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:BUD).

The acquisition, previously announced in August, includes Shock Top, Breckenridge Brewery, Blue Point Brewing Company, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Redhook Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewing, Square Mile Cider Company, and HiBall Energy.
