Hopes of an end to the strikes crippling the US auto industry are growing after workers at truck maker Mack reportedly reached an agreement with the Volvo-owned business.
Around 4,000 members of UAW tentatively agreed to the deal, which has to be ratified by the union itself, which Mack president Mark Roy said would mean “significantly increased wages and continue first-class benefits”.
Strikes by UAW members have been ongoing at the big three Detroit car makers General Motors, Ford and Chrysler/Stellantis for three weeks.
A Mack spokesman told reporters broad agreement had been reached last week and that progress on a final deal was expected in the coming days.
