Arecor Therapeutics PLC (AIM:AREC) has confirmed plans to expand its ongoing phase I clinical trial for its innovative insulin candidate, AT278.
It is increasing the number of participants from 32 to 42, a move aimed at enhancing the study's statistical power and the value of its results. The company anticipates releasing its findings in early 2024.
Sarah Howell, chief executive, said: "Having already demonstrated AT278's very promising profile in type-1 diabetic patients, this is a key clinical study for AT278 in the type-2 patient population."
The trial is designed as a double-blind, randomised, crossover study. It aims to compare the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles of a single subcutaneous dose of AT278 with that of NovoRapid in 42 people with type-2 diabetes.
