Cornish Metals Inc (AIM:CUSN, TSX-V:CUSN, OTC:SBWFF) has begun the 'wet' commissioning of its newly constructed mine water treatment plant (MWTP) at the South Crofty mine in Cornwall.
The plant is designed to handle 25,000 square metres of water per day, pumped from the mine, and it uses high-density sludge processing to treat the raw mine water and meet permitted standards for discharge.
"The commencement of wet commissioning at the South Crofty MWTP is another exciting step towards the dewatering of South Crofty Mine,” said chief executive Richard Williams.
“Our project team, supported by a small army of dedicated local contractors, has worked extremely hard over the last 12 months to take the MWTP from a conceptual flowsheet design through to a fully constructed plant."
The team will now fully test and commission every aspect of the process before commencing discharge to the Red River, the company added.
Commissioning and a build up of a ‘high-density sludge bed’ is expected to take up to three weeks and a full mine dewatering process is expected to start in October.
