Genflow Biosciences well funded for next R&D milestones

Genflow Biosciences PLC (LSE:GENF, OTCQB:GENFF) said it is funded until at least March 2025 as it summarised the significant progress it has made in the first half of the year.

It is making headway in its two main longevity programmes: NASH (Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis) and Werner Syndrome.

Genflow has submitted a comprehensive application to the Belgian regulatory authorities (FAMHP) for its drug, GF-1002. The FAMHP has advised advancing clinical trials with NASH patients, following promising in-vitro and in-vivo results.

In collaboration with partners, including the University of Liverpool and the University of Rochester, Genflow is conducting in-vivo evaluations in NASH mice models. These studies have analysed over 700 mice to understand the drug candidate's efficacy and safety, with final reports due by year-end.

The next milestone, which will be achieved over the next 18 months, is to gain the green light from the European Medicine Agency.

Genflow has also initiated a good manufacturing practices (GMP) initiative for both NASH and Werner Syndrome projects.

In partnership with Organips in France, the company is using artificial organs built with human cell organoids to limit animal testing. While promising, these organoids do not fully replicate the complexity of human organs.

At the same time, Genflow has expanded its intellectual property portfolio with a provisional patent application focusing on the SIRT6 gene editing. If granted, this patent could mark a significant breakthrough in gene therapy and longevity research.

The group ended the six months to 30 June 2023 with just over £1.5 million in the bank, which will be bolstered by approved grant funding due in the coming months.

Genflow is also actively seeking additional non-dilutive research grants to accelerate its research and development initiatives.

The loss for the period was £621,539.
