Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) unveiled the new Quest 3 mixed reality headset, Ray-Ban brand smart glasses and a series of AI chatbots on the first day of its Connect developer conference.
Here’s what was revealed during the event in Menlo Park, California.
Quest 3
Meta called the Quest 3 the first mainstream headset build for “mixed reality.” It’s powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform, giving it double the processing power of its predecessor,
The headset is expected to feature more than 100 new and upgraded games this year, with Xbox Cloud Gaming expected to also join the Quest platform in December. That would give users access to Halo Infinite and Minecraft Legends, among other games.
Quest 3 will be available for $499 and begin shipping on October 10.
Meta is also releasing a $129 charging dock for the Quest 3. The all-in-one charging station allows users to mount and charge the headset along with its controllers when not in use.
Ray-Ban smart glasses
Meta also revealed a line of Ray-Ban brand smart glasses, which are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1.
The glasses can live stream video directly to viewers and play music so only the wearer can hear it. They come equipped with five mics for clearer calls and voice commands.
Built-in Meta artificial intelligence will also be able to transmit information to users, according to the presentation.
Pairs will be available for $299 and start shipping October 17.
AI chatbots
Meta AI, a conversational assistant coming to Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram, will deliver real-time information and generate photo-realistic images based on user-inputted prompts.
It will be able to respond using more than two dozen AI chatbot personalities, including Meta celebrities such as Bear Grylls, Chloe Kim and Josh Richards, among others.
Meta also revealed Meta AI Studio, a platform for developers to build their own custom AI chatbots.
The company also introduced a tool for generating AI stickers based on user prompts, which is expected to roll out to certain English-language users over the next month.
