Lithium Australia's LFP cathode material proves superior in final tests

Lithium Australia Ltd (ASX:LIT, OTC:LMMFF) welcomes the results of its lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) cathode material's final testing.

The independent assessment by NOVONIX Battery Technology Solutions confirmed the product as superior in multiple aspects, either matching or exceeding leading competitors.

Testing confirms superior product

The key highlights from the testing are that the material:

  • retained the highest capacity at fast charging rates;
  • showed greater stability compared to market leaders; and
  • performed on par in high-temperature testing, indicating suitability for hot climates like India and Southeast Asia.

The testing program employed NOVONIX's Ultra High Precision Coulometry equipment and involved comprehensive cycle life testing.

The results confirmed the LFP material's high stability and long life cycle.

Market positioning

Lithium Australia is capitalising on these favourable outcomes to position itself as an attractive alternative to existing LFP suppliers, which are predominantly based in China.

The company is actively engaged in commercial discussions across North America, Europe, India, South Korea and Japan, leveraging its product as a negotiating tool for potential partnerships and offtake agreements.

By providing a credible alternative to Chinese suppliers, Lithium Australia is not only diversifying the LFP supply chain but also mitigating risks related to geopolitical disruptions.

The company remains committed to the large-scale commercialisation of its battery materials manufacturing capabilities.

"Important validation"

CEO and managing director Simon Linge said: “We are excited to receive such strong results for our LFP cathode material, validating our technology and proprietary production process.

“These results highlight how our product’s performance can match or exceed the market-leading competitors.

“We believe this important validation will help us to continue accelerating our ongoing commercial negotiations, seeking offtake agreements and potential partnerships.

“Ultimately, we remain steadfast on achieving large-scale commercialisation of our battery materials manufacturing capabilities.”
