Sigma Lithium Corp (TSX-V:SGML, NASDAQ:SGML) said it was invited to ring the Nasdaq opening bell for NYC Climate Week on September 20, 2023, to mark its achievements in sustainability in producing “Triple Zero Green Lithium” at its lithium project in Brazil.
Sigma Lithium CEO Ana Cabral, who participated in the bell-ringing ceremony along with other company executives, commented: "Ten years ago, our team and investors at Sigma Lithium started this journey together to build the most sustainable lithium company in the world, to prove that it is possible to power electric cars with carbon neutral, responsibly sourced materials, aligned with consumers' expectations."
The company commenced production of battery-grade, Triple Zero Green Lithium in April 2023 through a process that uses 100% renewable energy and recycled water at its Greentech lithium processing plant. Triple Zero refers to carbon neutral, zero hazardous chemicals and zero tailings.
It achieved zero tailings by reaching a deal to sell the high-purity, zero hazardous chemicals, approximately 1.3% lithium oxide, ultra-fine tailings generated by the Greentech Plant to be upcycled into battery grade lithium concentrate for use in electric vehicle battery production.
Shipments of the Triple Zero Green Lithium and green by-products commenced in July 2023 and the company recently announced a new shipment agreement, achieving net zero carbon 27 years ahead of the 2050 target set by the global metals and mining industry.
