Manchester United Plc (NYSE:MANU) is gearing up for its upcoming fiscal fourth-quarter earnings release, with analysts projecting a rollercoaster ride for the renowned English Premier League football club.
Over the past year, the company's share price has surged by an impressive 34%, fueled largely by the owners' proposal to sell the club in late November. This move sent the stock skyrocketing to a 52-week high, more than doubling its value from the October 52-week low.
However, potential buyers, including a Qatari royal and a British chemical magnate, have thus far failed to meet the Glazer family's minimum bid of £6 billion ($7.44 billion), which left the transaction hanging in uncertainty.
The company currently boasts a market capitalization of approximately $3.1 billion, leaving room for potential profits for investors who entered the market before the stock peaked in February.
Analysts have varied opinions on Manchester United's stock, with two rating it as 'Hold' and one as a 'Buy.' The stock's recent price hovers around $19.00 per share, indicating an implied upside based on a median price target of $24.50. Despite revenue predictions of $190.68 million for the fiscal fourth quarter, a 9.1% sequential dip is expected, contrasting with a notable 32.2% year-over-year increase.
The club is foreseen to showcase resilience with a per-share loss of $0.05, an improvement from previous quarters. However, projections indicate that profitability might not be on the horizon for Manchester United in 2023 or 2024.
The stock's 52-week trading range stands at $12.16 to $27.34, and the semi-annual dividend payment of $0.09 per share has been suspended.
Manchester United stock was down around 3.3% on Thursday afternoon at $18.22.
