Sigma Lithium Corp (TSX-V:SGML, NASDAQ:SGML) said it has prepared shipment of 22,500 tonnes of battery-grade, carbon-neutral, and zero-hazardous-chemical sustainable lithium, to be delivered to Glencore.
The shipment of “Triple Zero Green Lithium” is part of Sigma’s commitment to sustainable lithium production.
The lithium is battery-grade and carbon neutral, with zero hazardous chemicals and zero tailings.
Sigma announced it has struck a collaborative partnership with Glencore to develop a low-carbon, sustainable lithium supply chain for the electric vehicle sector.
"We are delighted to partner with Sigma Lithium, as we continue to offer our customers responsibly produced, low carbon lithium," said Robin Francois, lithium trader at Glencore.
The agreement involves a 50% prepayment, highlighting Glencore's commitment to responsibly produced, low-carbon lithium.
"Sigma Lithium and Glencore are building an EV supply chain that is focused on providing lithium materials that are responsibly sourced in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner," said Ana Cabral, Sigma Lithium’s CEO.
"Given the critical role of EVs in reducing the carbon footprint of the transportation sector, Glencore and Sigma Lithium's joint efforts are fully aligned with our clients' approach to responsible sourcing and supply chains built in line with the ethos of the consumer of the EV."
Sigma Lithium's Greentech Plant ramp-up is also making progress, aiming to produce 130,000 tonnes of Triple Zero Green Lithium in 2023. The plant is on track to achieve a stable design recovery of 65% and has consistently maintained high-quality lithium production.
