SSE PLC (LSE:SSE) has begun construction of an onshore wind farm in France, marking the generator’s first project outside Britain and Ireland.
Based in Chaintrix, to the east of Paris, the wind farm will be made of up of eight turbines and is estimated to be completed by late 2024.
“This project shows how we are putting our ambition into action in France,” onshore director Finlay McCutcheon commented.
“As our first project outside of the UK and Ireland, it will make a small but symbolically important contribution to our target of doubling our operational renewable capacity [by] 2027.”
SSE purchased Siemens' southern Europe project pipeline last year for around €580 million, with construction of the Chaintrix site marking the first in the portfolio to be developed.
The pipeline includes planning for 2.4GW of renewable power generation across Europe, according to SSE, with prospects for a further 2.5GW in the future.
