Light Science Technologies receives grant for sustainable potato farming project

Light Science Technologies Holdings PLC (AIM:LST) (LSTH) has received around £210,000 from the government as part of a project focused on sustainable potato farming.

Focussed on regenerative cultivation, the project will see LSTH work alongside the likes of Dyson Farming to try and limit the harmful effects of potato farming on the environment.

Nitrous oxide sensing capabilities will be combined with the company’s existing SensorGROW tech, which monitors crops to encourage water and cost savings.

“Many farmers are seeking ways of producing their crops more sustainably,” Dyson Farming’s Christine Jones said.

“Outcomes from the [...] project can be expected to offer growers a range of methods to reduce inputs to, and impact from, potato crops.”

LSTH will provide sensors to various sites under the project, with delivery expected in the second quarter of 2024.

“This will be an exciting opportunity to take SensorGROW from indoor to outdoor growing,” chief executive Simon Deacon added.
