Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in an interview published in Wired on Monday that the search giant’s long-established relationship with chipmaker Nvidia isn’t expected to end anytime soon and should continue over the next decade.
Pichai noted that Nvidia has a “strong track record” with AI innovation, calling the semiconductor sector a “very dynamic, cooperative industry.”
“It’s an industry that needs deep, long-term R&D and investments,” he said.
In August, Google and Nvidia announced a partnership that will give Google’s cloud customers greater access to technology powered by Nvidia’s H100 GPUs, which helped propel Nvidia’s stock price to a record high.
Nvidia’s powerful graphics processing units, or GPUs, are being sought after by cloud companies, government agencies and startups to train and deploy generative AI models like the technology underpinning OpenAI’s ChatGPT, CNBC reported.
In the Wired interview, Pichai described AI as “one of the most profound technologies we will ever work on.”
Class A shares of Google edged up $0.05 to $136.43 in midday trading on Monday, while Nvidia stock eased 2% to $446.21.
