Meta trades higher as Facebook owner is reportedly working on ‘more powerful’ GPT rival

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) traded higher in Monday’s early deals as the Facebook and Instagram parent company talked up an ongoing AI project, which aims to make a ‘more powerful’ GPT-like generative AI platform using large language models (LLMs).

In New York, Meta was up $4.07 or 1.4% at $302.10, on a morning that has seen broadly strong big-tech trading.

Meta in July launched Llama 2, a separate LLM AI product, to commercial customers though the new in-development tech is being designed to be ‘several times more powerful’, according to the weekend report in the Wall Street Journal, which also claimed the new AI would be ready next year.

Un-named Meta sources cited by the WSJ said that the social network company intends to begin the process of training the new AI model in early 2024.
