Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc (NYSE:HLT), owner of the Hilton hotel chain, announced on Thursday that it is teaming up with Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) to install 20,000 universal electrical vehicle (EV) chargers at 2,000 of its hotels in the US, Canada and Mexico.
The hotel group said the partnership would make Hilton’s EV charging network the largest of any hospitality company.
The chargers are expected to be installed beginning in early 2024, with the completion date targeted for 2025.
Each of the hotels selected for the new chargers will have at least six chargers, according to the company.
Hilton currently has chargers at less than a third of its properties.
Tesla launched its Universal Wall Connector, which is designed to seamlessly charge any North American EV model, earlier this year.
The EV giant announced in February that it would make at least 7,500 of its charging stations across the US available to all EV users by the end of 2024.
Tesla noted its wall charger can add up to 44 miles of range per hour to the batteries of both Tesla and non-Tesla EVs.
Shares of Hilton slipped 1% to $147.80 in early trading on Thursday, while Tesla stock fell 3% to $245.41.
