GitLab stock rises on surprise 2Q profit

GitLab shares popped nearly 5% in extended trading Tuesday after the code hosting company posted an adjusted fiscal second-quarter profit when analysts called for a loss.

The company posted adjusted earnings of $0.01 per share, compared to the analyst consensus of a $0.03 per share loss. Revenue jumped 38% year-over-year to $139.6 million, compared to expectations of $129.8 million.

GitLab’s own guidance, which the company reiterated in July, called for a loss between $0.03 and $0.02 per share on revenue between $129 and $130 million.

"We believe that our rapid pace of product innovation and strong customer demand position us to capture a greater share of the estimated $40 billion total addressable market opportunity," GitLab CEO Sid Sijbradij said in a statement.

For the third quarter, GitLab issued revenue guidance of $140 million to $141 million with an adjusted loss between $0.02 and $0.01 per share.
