Ryanair Holdings PLC (LSE:RYA) has revealed around 63,000 of its passengers had their flights cancelled due to last week's air traffic control failure.
This disruption, which left thousands stranded overseas, was caused by an issue with the National Air Traffic Services (Nats) processing flight plans automatically.
Despite these setbacks, the Irish carrier announced a record-breaking 11% increase in passengers for August compared to the same month last year. The airline transported 18.9 million passengers, surpassing its previous record set in July.
Ryanair's chief executive, Michael O’Leary, criticised Nats for the disruption, describing it as "unacceptable" and demanding an explanation for the failure.
The disruption came at a particularly challenging time for the airline industry, with the end of the summer break for many schools leaving little spare capacity across the sector.
The shares, traded in Dublin, were up around 1% early on.
