Patrick Scallan OAM will bring his vast lithium experience to Lithium Universe Ltd (ASX:LU7) as a non-executive director.
Scallan has more than 25 years of experience, working predominantly at the world-class Greenbushes Mine – the largest lithium hard rock mine globally, which hosts the highest-grade orebody in the world.
At Greenbushes, Scallan oversaw the mine's many expansions, increasing annual output from 200,000 in 1997 to more than 1.4 million tonnes per annum today, and navigated numerous ownership changes during his tenure.
Scallan’s hard rock exploration, mining and spodumene concentrating experience, along with his downstream relationships with major spodumene converters worldwide will likely be invaluable to LU7.

“I am excited by the prospects of evaluating a vertically integrated mine to lithium refinery processing hub concept at James Bay,” Scallan said of his appointment.
“I see a real opportunity for LU7 to develop a value-added strategy in Québec that meets the Canadian Government's likely requirement for the downstream processing of lithium minerals. We have a pedigree of lithium experience in LU7 with a proven track record that can deliver on such a strategy.”
Strategic appointment
LU7 will draw on Scallan’s skills in managing local community relationships, noting that he acted as shire councillor for nearly 20 years during his time at Greenbushes receiving his Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his community and local government contribution.
Scallan has also held management roles at Capel and Eneabba Mineral Sands in Western Australia and Western Deep Levels Gold Mine in South Africa.
